Transcript:

Hello everyone.
As we near the end of this school year, let me first say to all of you how proud I am of the way you have persevered through many challenging months.

Our students, staff members and Halton families have been remarkable in adapting and adjusting to ongoing changes. You have done your absolute best to be flexible and accommodating as we worked hard every day to provide the best education possible.

We know this year has not been easy and we commend you for supporting your schools and families throughout this school year.

While adjusting to this unique year, the Halton District School Board has lots to celebrate.

We unveiled our new Multi-Year Plan, which is a blueprint strategically identifying goals for the HDSB through 2024. The Multi-Year Plan will guide the important work we do for our students and staff over the next several years.

We continue to engage our staff and students in important work such as equity and well-being.

We hosted a successful Human Rights Symposium on the Rights of the Child and held a series of equity and mental health and well-being sessions for staff and HDSB families to support them on their personal, educational and professional journeys.

We are very fortunate to have amazing staff and students in our Board and this is reflected in their accomplishments this year.

Two staff members are recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence, and students achieved remarkable success and recognition for participation in virtual competitions such as the Bay Area Science and Engineering Fair, Ontario Skills competition and global essay forums.

The Board held a virtual skilled trades event for all Grade 7 students and was a key partner in the online Generation Green student conference, which addressed taking action for climate justice.

I want to give a big congratulations to all of our 2021 graduates. The resilience and determination you have demonstrated this year makes me very optimistic you will all have very interesting and fantastic futures.

We are so proud of you and wish you all well.

As we bring this school year to its conclusion, this will be my final year-end message as I am retiring. It has been my distinct pleasure to be your Director of Education, and I am very confident the future of the HDSB will remain bright when the new director takes the helm.

In closing, please stay safe everyone and thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all you have done and continue to do.
